Aurora began its relationship with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) directly after the bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993. Aurora completed substantially all of the retail space on the Concourse Level of the World Trade Center. In the summer of 2001, Aurora was designated by the PANYNJ as one of three Design/Build contractors for all construction projects within the World Trade Center. Then, tragically, the events of September 11th occurred.
The PANYNJ looked to Aurora to assist them in their relocation efforts. We had the opportunity to work on a fit-out of 120,000 square feet of office space over four floors located at 255/233 Park Avenue South. The need for office space created a compressed schedule and incomplete designs. At our request, the PANYNJ had an architect, mechanical and electrical engineers and an interior designer on-site to facilitate and expedite all of the design changes. Drawings and approvals were performed on-site, which allowed the project to complete ahead of schedule.
Aurora’s teamwork with a large, complex, multi-state organization resulted in $150,000 in bonuses for obtaining substantial completion ahead of schedule.
