Aurora Contractors was the General Contractor for the new Super Stop & Shop on Richmond Avenue in Staten Island, New York. The contract required the store to be constructed within an active shopping center.
The project proved challenging for numerous reasons. For example, there was extraordinary site conditions, namely extensive and constant dewatering. Another challenge was coordinating all of the owner supplied equipment from Stop & Shop’s national accounts. Every national retail company provides numerous items directly to a project. This is especially true when constructing a supermarket.
Our experienced superintendents and project managers understand coordination is critical. In developing the schedule for the project, critical path elements were assigned to long lead items and they were monitored closely, to ensure that they did not adversely impact the timely completion of the project.
Aurora was also contracted by Stop & Shop to perform the renovation of the Holbrook Stop & Shop location. The contract called for an open store renovation of the 75,000 square feet supermarket. The project included a complete upgrade of the entire store, including the relocation and upgrade of every case and department in the store, and phased relocation of the meat and product storage and prep areas, in order to limit each department’s down time to one day.
